Typically, if one has ever participated in any type ($100, $200, points, etc) of CitiBank checking promotion in the past, you will never actually receive the benefits when participating in a future promotion.

The way I read this (and please correct me if I am wrong) is I need to open a regular checking account with $1000 and a money market account with 25K (that pays about 3%). My reward is 40,000 TYP (or about $400 conservatively).

What is the time line that the accounts need to stay open and have that balance?

Can I piggy back the offer with another citi checking offer?

Didn't this get posted the other day?

OP, what state are you in and was this offer by mail?

I would LOVE 40k TYP to pay down my student loan. Would be so nice.

my guts feeling about these round trip rewards is that they are never that useful to you, because reward tickets are under a whole of restrictions, like blackout dates, eligibility for certain flights, and even if your choice goes through, it is very likely to be on some non-holiday dates with like 10 hour detour... you figure.

Even if you don't use the 40k points for the tickets, they still have about $400 of "real" value. I got this offer too via email with the same offer code.

It doesn't say how long you have to keep the money in the account, though...that's my concern.

These aren't rewards tickets, you are getting 40,000 Thank You Rewards points, which can them be redeemed for 2 fixed points flights. ThankYou Rewards tickets are easy to get with few limitation.

ThankYou points are some of the easiest points to redeem in the industry. There are no Blackout Dates, and they offer both a Fixed Purchase option or Variable Purchase Options for Flights and Hotels along with Gift Cards that are typically worth 1c per point.

No. I had a checking account which was closed 4 years ago.

so, basically nobody who has citi banking accounts got this promo?
i'm thinking it's only good for new customers.

has anyone called to see if they already have accounts, just not the specific "money market plus" account, whether it's valid?

This offer was in the newspaper (San Diego Union Tribune) 2 days ago.

Is there a concern about being able to use these points as fixed points (20K TYP = $400 tkt)? Does this offer automatically qualify you for using the points with fixed redemption?

I have existing checking and saving accounts with Citibank.

Does anybody have the copy of a offer which is available to existing Citibank (both checking and saving) customers? If yes, can you please scan and post the link. Or if you can fax or email it to me, that will also work (PM me for my that). I do not have a branch nearby, so can not check it.

From my past experience, Citibank has been very stingy about their promotions and I will like to have a copy of the offer before going for it. Thanks for your help.

so at the branch i asked them about this. they said if you had an existing account you only get 20,000 points.

however, looking at the fine print, it says the citi money market plus doesn't have to be new, but it does have to have a new regular checking account. and accounts funded through financial centers have to be funded with new money.

so, i don't have anything in writing regarding what the teller said (that existing customers get 20,000 points)
