Brother Refurbished MFC-240C Color Flatbed All-in-One, $30 AR Archived From: Hot Deals |
Cool. These can take generic ink too I believe.
the price is great! but it seems that it has bad review from Amazon:< what should I do?
From those reviews, it seems that people are having issues using aftermarket ink cartridges... and when ink is out, you can't even use the scanner. Great price but looks like it has lot of restrictions.
Buy this + norton antivirus which is FAR too($39.99 -$20 -$20) + paperclips, and use with $25 off $100 fleabay coupon.
Your total cost will be $5 after rebates!
If you've ever owned a Brother multifunction before and experienced all of the inherent Brother printer problems, free isn't cheap enough. I have not read the reviews on Amazon, but if they are lousy then they are probably accurate.

I am not familiar with AIO's. Can't you scan something and save as image on your PC? If yes, why should it require ink for scanning?

I have this printer and it works just fine. Once the ink ran out, I replaced it with generic that I got off of eBay and it works. The most annoying thing is when it randomly wakes up and cleans the printhead, especially when it's at night!
I also have this printer and use generic inks. I'm very pleased with it. I have no regrets about buying it. A great buy for $30 IMHO.
I am on my second Brother MFC -- I print and scan daily with no problems. Very happy with these so far for the price.
bought a similar model last year ..it ate up my ink and i never printed with it one time.
This is a horrible printer, stay away!!! Don't even think about buying generic ink for this. I still have a box of carts for the one I purchased and the printer has been tossed long ago. It will stay at the cleaning mode forever and ever until your ink is all gone.

So you are saying you never printed anything and the machine magically ate your ink?

I have three of these printers in my home and LOVE them. The cartridges are cheap and the print quality is fine.
If the reviews are so bad, I guess the one I had was an anomaly then, because it was as good and fast as a canon pixma mp500...

Seriously, this is a very good printer. Scans fast with accurate color reproduction, prints fast with good quality, has an ADF and even fax. At $30 AR I am getting another one. Generic cartridges work fine. The self cleanining might be annoying sometimes, but the more you use the machine, the less cleaning it will do.
Thanks OP!
Alex
This is a great deal! Buy quality generic ink tanks and you will have no problems. I have set up 3 family members and 2 neighbors with this all-in-one, they are all very happy with it.
You can buy 12 quality generic ink tanks for this (3 of each color: cyan, magenta, yellow and black) for $26.50 shipped here-

This printer is excellent because of its many functions for a cheap price and cheap operating cost. It still uses un-chipped generic ink, something that is becoming very rare these days. It will print photos, but this is not its forte.

Can't you just turn the machine off when not using it to prevent it from going through the cleaning cycle?
nm wrong thread.
