Technically, the price is discounted for most states because you do not pay tax (which, for me, saved $38.75). On top of that, it is unknown when these 80GB PS3s with backward compatability will be available again as the PS3s coming out in September will NOT have BC. Also, if you take into account that the game retails for $60 and the controller retails for $50 you technically save $10 over buying all of these items separately AND you get BC - saving you space in your entertainment center.
Saw this in the local Target today. If you don't mind waiting for AMZ to ship, you might save a few $$$s on sales tax (unless you live in WA, KY, NV or NY).

technically, you are wasting our time.
The next 80GB PS3 available for $399 in September is just a HD upgrade from current 40GB which does not have all goodies in this 80GB and will NOT have backward compatiblity to play PS2 games.
This is the last backward compatible PS3 you can get, $100 more for PS2 compatiblity and MGS4 game is hot to me, and no tax for most states.
It has been out of stock since the pre-order has ended in June at Amazon, so you figure if it's hot or not.

I know this is not a hot price, but given that there's no tax, free shipping, low availability, and the fact that I had $260 in gift cards to use makes this a must buy for me. Thanks MarkyMags.
Are this hard to find? I saw about 10 of em in my local BB yesterday and at least 3 in Target.
I guess they all received new stock this week or depends on area.
I hadn't seen any at BB, CC, WalMart and Target before this week while I was looking for Wii Fit as gift for my friend, but they had only some 40GB left over.
The SonyStyle.com had it in stock for half day before out of stock again last week, probably because the $100 credit if you apply the credit card. The so-called instant approval didn't approve my application right the way (even I had 3 others Chase cards), and I had to wait for the snail mail for the card, so I lost the chance.
these are hard to find, at least for the 499 price. if anyone sees it restocked lemme kno!
