OKAY, this might not yet be a deal but worth taking note.... This is probably the greatest news I've heard since the new Iphone 3g came out and I've been jealous of all my friends who decided to switch over to AT&T-Cingular (crappiest customer service ever.. i was with them for 2 yeras before joining T-mo for the last 3 years) and they get locked on a 2 year contract for $199.. even worst are my friends who got ripped off by spending $599 and they were even new AT&T customers (however, they did not qualify for $199 because they were only a few months into their previous contract)... I don't know why AT&T would do that to make their own customers pay the same price as those who can buy the Iphone 3G without a contract..

Anyway, the best things come to those who wait...

T-Mobile is now announcing a 1-week Preorder starting Sept. 17 for the supposed "Iphone Killer".. The new HTC Dream phone running Google's highly anticipated Android Opensource OS.

It has everything the Iphone has (3x5" touchscreen, 3.2 megapixel camera, GPS and A-GPS, 3G network, etc..) PLUS a pull out Qwerty keyboard and swappable SIM card and microSD storage)

All this just in time for T-Mobile's rollout of their 3G Network in October which will have cheaper data plans than AT&T. This is likely to be their flagship phone introduced with 3G.

and best of all..

all at a low price of $150!!!!! (Possibly FREE or with rebate through T-Mobile Business Direct channel too??!)
Thanks AT&T and Apple for giving your competitors lower pricing!!

Get ready to get rid of them Dashes, Wings, and whatever current T-Mobile smartphone you have and get ready to make all your Iphone toting friends jealous.... haha..

At the low, low price of $150.....plus the 2 year contract, I assume.

And don't bet you will be able to keep your current plan, of course. They will be 'special' as well...

well.. T-Mobile is usually alot more easy going than AT&T-Cingular and T-Mobile's Business direct channel might be offering this like how many of us got our Dashes and Wings wiht only a 1 year contract and for a whole lot cheaper price as well...

and T-Mobile's customer service is like night and day over AT&T-Cingular.. I think its the Cingular part of the company that is troublesome.. I am an AT&T customer for their U-verse broadband/TV service and they've been great.. can't say the same for their wireless service..

Not that it's at all relevant to this deal, but anyone who bought a first gen iPhone IS eligible for the $199 at any time, regardless of when they bought it.

lol.. swappable sim card.. teheheh

to flagg:

I heard you have to turn over your iPhone when you upgrade, is that true?

Naw, you bought it, it's yours to hang on to. But if you bought one within Apple's grace period, they'll let you upgrade it free. (More on that below.) But if you bought an original iPhone early on -- which means half of your two year contract is about up -- know that when you buy an iPhone 3G you'll be re-upping that two year contract from date of purchase. So if you buy an iPhone 3G on day one, your new contract will expire on July 11th, 2010.

So if I bought an original iPhone, I can trade it in for an iPhone 3G?

Yes, but only if you bought it AFTER May 27th, 2008. Anyone who bought theirs before that has to live with their purchase -- not that anyone can stop you from showing up to your local Apple Store and raising a ruckus.

to wiru (i dont know what your trying to ask),but: tmobile said they wont change the pricing on their data plans..

It would be a sweet deal if i can get it through business direct. I think its a pre-sale not a pre-order. Ive never heard to T-Mobile doing a pre-0rder.

So, I'm on my family plan with a troublesome Dash (the microphone doesn't work 50% of the time). Do you guys think this deal will work for me without having to get a new plan? If it's some internet add-on requirement that I can cancel after a month, that's OK.

I stay away from HTC. I currently have the Cingular 2125 which I found out later that it made by HTC. Here are the problems I have with it:

1) Once in a blue moon it decide to not make any sound. Doesn't matter how hard I slat it but a reboot will fix it.
2) Sometime the other end can't hear me. A reboot or call back will fix it.
3) My car bluetooth can display signal strength and with other phones it displays it but with my phone it can pickup and hang up calls but all other features like signal strength or send contact is not working.
4) Icons go crazy sometimes. It switch all the icons so U won't know what programs you are turning on until it turns on.
5) Sometimes it dial the wrong number. I call my mom in my contact list and than someone pick up saying "PizzaHut". It just randomly dial the number.
6) Receive wrong Caller ID. My sister recently using her 3G to call me so I can add her to my contact but the stupid phone add another '1' in front of the number. So instead of 1-123-123-1234 it shows 1-112-3123-4 and when I use that # to call back it say # not recognize.

I have tried updates and even contact HTC, they won't or can't help.

Any info on CPU/RAM? Will we be able to install WM6.1 or WM7 on it? I'm not thrilled about Android from what I have seen so far.

Also, what's the internal memory size? 8GB? 16GB?

1) All of the this is a rumour. Who knows if the price and/or availability or features will be as they say? I have many times about iphone "killers" but have not seen one that lived up to the name, yet. Could this be the one? We don't know yet so it is hardly a hot deal .

2) I got my iphone for $250 from ATT and unlocked it. I purchased a TMO Wing for $79 after rebate (1 yr contract), took the SIM out and put in my iphone and then sold the Wing for $325 + shipping. I only have EDGE and not 3g when out of WiFi range but my phone was basically free and only a 1 yr hitch with TMO and I am on the cheap T-Zone data plan using the hack. So I don't have any "iphone envy" and I am pretty happy with what I have and what I have in it .

sorry for not making it clear. i think there are a BIG community of FWer running on unlocked iphone using tzone hack for $5.99. for those of us using iphone unlocked also have the option of chosing edge from tmobile for $20 a month. my question would be if tmobile launches 3g, can us FWer using 1st gen iphone run on 3g network? is 3g a hardware limitation or software limitation? also , what is the cost of 3g per month thru tomobile?

3G is not a software fix. It requires very different hardware.

wiru. the iphone not being capable of running 3g is a hardware limitation. And far as current rumors, the pricing should remain the same ~20 bucks. I dont know if the tzones hack will be available 3g.. since the 3g is on a different band.

AT&T runs 3G at 850/1900Mhz (in-band with their current 2G GSM network). T-Mobile uses 1700/2100Mhz for 3G. The iPhone has tri-band 3G (850/1900/2100) but that's 'worldwide' 3G which isn't compatible with the US bandplan (US 'AWS band' uses 1700Mhz for uplink, Euro/world 3G uses 1900Mhz for uplink which is right in the middle of US PCS spectrum downlink). Very few phones are going to be compatible with T-Mobile's 3G for a while.

AWS stands for Advanced Wireless Services.

RUmor or not... I'm being optimistic here... the reason being is because someone definately needs to grab share of the market and give Apple/AT&T a run for their money.. and it is in line iwth the expected release (OCT 08) of T-Mobile's 3G network.. they would need a 3G phone to offer to come out with it...

htcsource.com also has the same mentioning and they mention its from a "reliable T-Mobile" source.. haha.. its okay to "DREAM" once in awhile right? haha..

I wonder if this is what the HTC Dream will be based on?

The specs are very similar to the unverified info that has been going around and the phone looks very similar if not exact to the one in the video link posted by OP (other than this one is black and the one in the video is white).
